Persona 5 Tactica is a tactical role-playing game that focuses on turn-based mechanics, without forgetting to tell a beautiful story or celebrate the iconic visuals of the Persona series. The Phantom Thieves are once more transported to an alternate world torn apart by relentless conflict. In this realm, they ally with a group of freedom fighters called the "Rebel Corps" to lead a revolution against the oppressive "Legionnaires."
Persona 5 Tactica scores high on strategy, even if the tactics use elements typical of strategy RPGs: an affinity or weapon system and turn-based combat. It is a Persona game, so Tactica integrates familiar mechanics from the series, such as Persona summoning and fusion. The action of the game takes place in a new universe called "Kingdoms," which are mind versions of real-world periods of human history. Players assemble a squad of three characters from the Phantom Thieves, welcoming the newcomer Erina, and embark on missions to advance the plot. Character progression occurs through skill trees and the utilization of Personas.

An Emotional Revolution
Erina, the leader of the Rebel Corps and one of the new playable characters, quickly invites the Phantom Thieves to join the revolution against the tyrant Marie, with the premise that she knows of a way for them to get back home. The Phantom Thieves accept the invitations, and up we go. The story of Persona 5 Tactica takes an amazing turn when the Phantom Thieves, Erina, and Toshiro meet, but you will have to find it alone. Are you ready to run through the revolutionary world with them? The revolution is imminent!
Build Your Dream Squad
Persona 5 Tactica includes various new skills that compared well to the series. Each character has a unique, whole-party buff applied whenever they're placed on the battlefield. Persona spells are less about dealing elemental damage and more about applying status effects or repositioning enemies. Here are all eight playable characters in Persona 5 Tactica:
- Erina, new to P5T, introduces new players to the game's basics. She has decent attack stats but limited movement and very low range.
- Haru is more gun-focused; she can inflict severe punishment on enemy groups.
- Morgana is exceptionally light on his paws, scampering across the battlefield with some of the highest movement speeds in the game. His gun and wind-elemental damage are fine, and his Garu skills benefit from shoving their targets back.
- Joker is the original protagonist of Persona 5, and as his name implies, he's a wild card, able to take on multiple Personas at once; his special attack, Phantom Judge, has a particularly long range, making him a powerful ally wherever he's positioned.
- Yusuke gun skills translate well to Persona 5 Tactica, as they can chunk off large segments of enemy HP bars even at range. Yusuke has a special ability, ' Like a Phantom,' which forces enemies to miss their turn.
- Ryuji rounds out the top three playable characters in Persona 5 Tactica simply due to the sheer physical damage he can inflict.
- Makoto is mostly melee-focused in P5T, but that's fine - get her close enough to an enemy, and the damage she'll do will more than makeup for the risk of getting there. Makoto also has a special AoE attack called Full Throttle, in which she revs up her engine and charges directly forward in a straight line, knocking back anyone in her path.
- Ann's whopping Persona skill damage makes her the best playable character in Persona 5 Tactica. Ann can use Femme Fatale to take a second action in a single turn.
Some characters are better than others, but each has a niche. The key to victory in Persona 5 Tactica isn't just having the best characters available - it's knowing how to read a situation and swapping in whoever's best suited to overcome it.
Dynamic combat
In Persona 5 Tactica, you use a board to control the combat with the pieces you want. However, the outcome will be based on your ability to take advantage of each benefit in the scenario. Persona 5 Tactica has additional challenges that will challenge your skills on the battlefield with more rigorous goals, which will make you look for the best solution for each case. Setting up shop in Metaverse Café Leblanc, you can talk out matters, upgrade your party, and select new abilities and tools to aid your quest. You can enter the Velvet Room to fuse new Personas or weapons from there.
Your battles will be performed in a top-down view, with simple controls on the console. You'll be able to change between your party of three to act in any order you wish, moving around the field to find some health-saving cover. In terms of actions, you'll have Persona skills at your disposal — provided you have the SP to use them — or guns or close-range weapons. Classic Persona tropes are included; attacks that trigger a critical hit will give you one more attack that round. Better yet, surrounding and downing an enemy will allow you to trigger the spectacle that is the All Out Attack.
